Motorola Moto X Play: Design and workmanship
The Moto X Play is quite similar to the Moto X (2014), but it was more ergonomic and more beautiful by changes in the right place. When I tested last year, the second Moto X with bamboo bowl, it seemed tall, thin and slippery. Comfort and good grip I searched in vain. The new Moto X Play made a completely different, more pleasant impression in the test.The Motorola Moto X Play. / © AndroidPIT
If your looking for the same quality of workmanship and the same feel of the Moto X style, you will be disappointed, however, when X Play. Although the general design as I said is not too far apart, the materials used and the workmanship are different. Where when X motor (2014) and in Moto X Style shines aluminum, welcomes the user in Moto X Play smooth plastic that seeks to mimic metal.
However, this does not mean that the Moto X Play is an ugly phone. It is only then that it was obviously designed with a little less flair for detail, so more the impression of a cheap device is formed. And it is finally.The polycarbonate body of the Moto X Play can act it convenient not to mention cheap. / © AndroidPIT
is the SIM card slot on the top side of the device, directly behind that hides the slot for the microSD card that allows memory expansion up to 128 GB. At the lower housing, the USB port, power button and volume rocker is placed at the sides of the device. As usual for Motorola, the power button is provided with a light texture, so you can distinguish it purely haptic of the volume rocker. Both buttons are easy to reach with one hand.On the ground equipment of the Moto X Play the USB port found. / © AndroidPIT
There are other similarities between the Moto X and the Moto X Play of last year, such as the front speakers. What does X Play but most distinguishes by design, from the rest of the Moto family, is what Motorola "expanded housing" lists. We are talking about the much broader and extended to the rear side frames, which have a much smaller backplate result.The frame of the Moto X Play is much more prominent than that of all other Motos. / © AndroidPIT
The rubberized plastic tray with texture on the back gives the device a very secure grip. remove the shell is easier than ever. Who in the past with other Moto models had problems with it, will immediately understand what I mean. However, the battery is unfortunately not interchangeable.The wide plastic frame of the Moto X Play give it a very eihenen look. / © AndroidPIT
There are dual-slot for nano-SIM and microSD card on top of the device. The latter can be extended by up to 128 GB. Centrally located on the upper edge of the housing of the headphone jack.
I must say that I was surprised by the Moto X Play in the test. Despite the setbacks in the choice of materials, the construction of the smartphone has convinced me. Motorola gets to his style, but created with the Moto X Play at the same time a unique identity, which gives a place in the model portfolio of Motorola device. So Motorola will remain with the Moto X Play in my opinion one of the top manufacturers for design smartphones on the market.
Motorola Moto X Play: Display
That the Moto X Play display is its most controversial component. Buyers get a 5.5-inch LCD panel in full HD, resulting in a pixel density of 401 ppi. In my test of Moto X Play the screen was able to convince with its balanced color reproduction and good contrast. The switch from AMOLED to LCD has the X Play well done, as the former display technology had led the previous nor to an unattractive yellowish cast, now I could not find. Overall, the color reproduction was good in my Moto-X-Play Test.The Moto X Play offers good colors on its LCD panel. / © AndroidPIT
Of course, it falls less tired and a bit cooler than in an AMOLED display à la Samsung. Also, LCD panels are considered to be less energy efficient, but they are cheaper, and the Moto-X-Play Award was for Motorola obviously a priority. For this, the display in the Moto X Play is brighter than in the Moto X (2014), although there is in direct sunlight a little more reflection.
The display of the Moto X Play convinced beyond with excellent representation of sharpness, even up to a viewing angle of about 75 degrees. The contrast is as said not outstanding, but Motorola allows the user via the display settings fine adjustments along two color modes.In terms of brightness and yellowness the Moto X Play has increased. / © AndroidPIT
Motorola Moto X Play: Features
Protection against splash
The Moto X Play has a nano-coating that protects the device against moderate splashes. This does not mean that it is water-resistant and withstands permanent submersion, but if your time accidentally pours liquid on the Moto X Play, it gets a little wet on the beach or abbekommt light rain, I need you not to worry.
No modern Motorola smartphone does not require the explicit mention of Moto Makers, the platform on which you can personalize your Motos freely snout outside. Here, not only color accents or back covers can pick and choose even whole sentences can be engraved into the device, which are then displayed in addition to the boot screen. Who selects the 32 GB version here receives, as already mentioned extra cover. The smaller memory model of which is as I said, unfortunately, the exception.In Moto Maker also the Moto X Play gets different backs. / © AndroidPIT
The Moto App
The Moto-app is the center for the Smart Device Features of the Moto X Play. Here the user can configure the gesture and motion control or set a hotword, via the voice control of Moto Voice Assistants is activated. Our Moto X Play in the test responded example, "Hey there, buddy",
An example of the motion control is twice shaking the smartphone to turn on the camera. Unfortunately can not be with the Moto X Play like the Moto G (2015) turn on the flashlight by shaking.
By the way, Motorola's voice assistant is pleasant un-robotic and understands verbal commands surprisingly well. Even in noisy environments I had no problems with the language entries in the Moto-X-Play Test.
Motorola Moto X Play: Software
Motorola is known to make unnecessary adjustments and alienations of pure Android software, while it remains in play X, whose software is based on Android 5.1.1. The settings have been changed, however slightly, and outsourced features such as voice control and gesture control in the aforementioned Moto app. Here Motorola remains a very important aspect true: The more you use its software, the better and more intelligent she is, because she learns.The home screen, the Moto app and display settings in the Moto X Play. / © AndroidPIT
31 Motorola apps are pre-installed, and that's a bit much, considering that we are actually dealing with a very lean system. Among them is, for example, an FM radio. Some of these apps can be uninstalled or at least disabled thankfully. The radio is a feature that has interested many of our Brazilian readers, and I can not only confirm its existence, but also report that it is interesting indeed. It lets you record namely radio programs or music snippets and save them directly on the microSD card.The software experience is, according to Motorola "purely", / © AndroidPIT
We asked Motorola when the Moto X Play would know the update to Android 6.0, and it was said that it was as much the end of 2015 or early 2016, depending on how late Google released final version.
Motorola Moto X Play: Performance
The Moto X Play is equipped with a Snapdragon 615th The eight Kerner is known for example from the Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3 (for testing), the HTC Desire 820, the Samsung Galaxy A7, the Sony Xperia M4 Aqua (to test) and some others. Four of its cores clocked at 1.7 GHz and four to 1.0, but none of them is optimized for high performance.
For this, the dedicated co-processor, the natural language input is also found in Moto X Play reprocessed and is responsible for the context awareness of smart phones, which Motorola smartphones always gave a small advantage in this regard. The graphics unit, an Adreno 405 plays more in the midfield. 2 GB of RAM, 16 or 32GB of flash memory are also more common. After all, can be expanded to 128 GB of internal memory via microSD card.The Moto X Play did not disappoint in terms of performance. / © AndroidPIT
The performance of the Moto X Plus is completely satisfactory, and during my days with the unit I noticed no crashes or large bucking up. Motorola a good hardware software tuning is here succeeded because as I said at the pure hardware front, the Moto X Play impress anyone. And thanks to the latest Android version 5.1.1, the X Play benefits already standing by any Google other available software enhancements and security updates.
During the Moto-X-play testing I registered no heat problems, unless the unit was flying absolute full load, so after I games like Real Racing 3, Sonic Dash, Pitfall, crossy road or GTA: San Andreas played. Despite the mid-range processor I could leave in these games, the graphics at the highest level without the system performance would thus have had major problems.Even while playing Pitfall the Moto X Play made a good impression. / © AndroidPIT
While I was playing Pitfall example, about 32 apps were in the multitasking menu, notifications came in about LTE, as well as e-mails and more. Nevertheless, the game ran without a hiccup. In AnTuTu benchmark, the Moto X Play managed moderate 35,074 points. This result may be lower than expected, but the subjective experience in Moto-X-Play Test is not reflected by this number.
Motorola Moto X Play: Camera
Motorola has placed great emphasis on the cameras of both Moto X (2015). The Moto-X-Play camera measures a new sensor, the light intensity and color in a new way and combined. The results of which proved in the first test than impressive. In addition to the 21-megapixel photos, the Moto-X-Play camera also dominates maximum 1080p videos in slow motion. Front flaunts a 5 megapixel selfie cam, but dispenses with the LED flash, the Motorola has donated the front-clippers of the Moto X style.
The camera software offers the basic features you expect from a Motorola model, so the night mode, panoramic, the touch focus and exposure control. The macro mode is automatic and works at a distance of about 8 cm well.The main camera of the Moto X Play has a 21-MP sensor. / © AndroidPIT
In low light situations with the Moto-X-Play camera to shine thanks to f / 2.0 aperture, such as Motorola promised on its launch event. Our test results were satisfactory: the camera software do not overdo it in the automatic editing and maintains sharpness and color balance under control. Night shots succeed without excessive noise, which really shows how serious Motorola has taken the topic in the Moto-X-Play camera.
The HDR mode is excellent and the manual control of exposure can be very handy. Great trip delays were detected and image stabilization is done by software, not through an optical stabilizer. Motorola Moto X Play: Battery
The Moto X Play is the Moto X (2015) with the battery, which we have always liked of the series. 3,630 mAh capacity and fast charging flotteres than Samsung Galaxy S6 (for testing) are proper values. Motorola promises that to get loose by two days without a visit to the outlet. Motorola's quick charge feature gives you the remainder within 15 minutes of juice for eight hours.
In my test of Moto-X-Play-battery, I managed to fully charge it within 2 hours and 10 minutes. The battery life is above average without question, but the promised Motorola values I could not elicit the battery. In the following table you can see the averages in our battery test the Moto X Play:
|21 hours||15 hours|
|12 hours||10 hours|
|15 hours||13 hours|
|8 hours||7 hours|
To discharge the battery in eight hours, you have it extremely burdening already, that is, heavy gaming, Bluetooth capability, streaming through social networks or Chromecast. With moderate use, I came to a good 15 hours of battery life. If you are the most time in the Wi-Fi network and uses social networks only occasionally, the Moto X Play creates 23 hours, without using a power saving mode.Motorola promises significantly faster charging of the Moto X Play, even faster than on the Galaxy S6. / © AndroidPIT
Motorola Moto X Play: Specifications

|5.1.1 - Lollipop|
|Qualcomm Snapdragon 615|

The Moto X Play is an economically sensible choice for users who are looking for an Android smartphone, the ordinary technical data and especially brings above-average battery life with it. Of course, Motorola had to make compromises in order to keep the price extremely competitive. What a bargain the Moto X Play actually, it can be argued, for example, a ZenFone 2 also offers fantastic value for money and models like Huawei P8 deliver high-end hardware (with a much smaller battery) and high-end processing without a huge premium. And a Nexus 5, which at the time appeared at the same price was, after all, equipped with a top processor, even when the camera and battery were inferior here.
The Moto X Play is not really interesting replacement for users who call already Moto X (2014) their own. Here the Moto X style would be the better choice. But the X Play is undoubtedly a model that will find his friends. Motorola has focused on demanding users who want to stay premium price, but most especially on a lush battery value.
My only criticisms are the mono speaker and the main camera, which falls short despite satisfactory results that Motorola had promised full-bodied. For it is by no means outstanding.
How do you see it?
